Confectionery News: High Viscosity Pump Extracts Residue
A.R. Arena Products said the top transfer pump mechanism in its Starfish Air-Evac® liner and Air-Evac Station 3 allows a more efficient extraction of hner=1');">viscosity fluids from bag-in-box bulk packages. The hands-free system works by replacing volume of liquid pumped out of inner chamber of bag with shop air introduced to chambers on outside of bag. The inflating air chambers push the liquid content toward the bag outlet. Air volume is increased as the liquid content decreases. As product pools around the pump inlet, it can be pumped out, allowing the Air-Evac to achieve very low residual levels, the company claimed.

Material Handling Management: Big Boxes Without Big Bucks
Many companies currently using one-way transport packaging products such as intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) could benefit from container pooling, says Mike Brunhuber, v.p., A.R. Arena Products (Rochester, N.Y., www.arenaproducts.com). His company designs, manufactures and markets reusable structural plastic products. It also started the first reusable plastic container pooling business in the United States in 1993. "Many of our customers," says Brunhuber, "are converting to reusable containers for reasons slightly different from even five years ago. Environmental issues are now a priority."

Thomasnet: Intermediate Bulk Container Features Bag-in-Box Design
Intended for use with non-hazardous liquids, collapsible Arena 330 Shipper ) generates as little as 10 lb of waste per 330 gallons. Foldable, reusable system is constructed of structural plastic resins and composites to meet forces associated with dynamic motion of liquids caused by shock and vibration in truck and rail transport. When empty, users dispose of used liquid liner bag, which provides sanitary and aseptic packaging for each use.

Food Engineering: Arena Delivers Starfish Pump
The Arena Starfish pump helps maximize the performance of the Starfish Air-Evac® liner, which is designed to reduce residual and waste of high viscosity products. The addition of the pump improves process productivity by adding further automation, reducing changeover time and simplifying clean up, says the company. The stainless steel transfer pump uses product elevation technology to lift product from floor level to a hopper. Totes with product are placed under the pump and the pump is lowered into the tote for discharge. The pump can be attached to the top of the bag-in-box tote, eliminating the need to attach additional hose.

Food Engineering: Arena Delivers Bag-in-Box System
The Air-Evac® bag technology system increases the amount of high viscosity fluids that can be extracted from bag-in-box packages, says A.R. Arena, the manufacturer. The hands-free system works by replacing the volume of the liquid pumped out of the inner chamber of the bag with shop air introduced to chambers outside of the bag. The inflating air chambers push the liquid content toward the bag outlet. Air volume is increased as the liquid content decreases. As product pools around the drain opening, it can be pumped out, enabling the system to achieve low residual levels.
