Arena 330 Shipper™

Assembly and Filling Instructions for
Bottom Discharge Instructions

1

Carefully remove the banding from the Arena 330 Shipper™. Detach the cover by pulling up on the latches (as indicated by the illustration). There are two latches on each side to the container. Locate the port on the 48 inch side of the Arena 330 Shipper™. Remove the bung cap and attach the appropriate valve for your discharge system. Several options are pictured below in Step 2.

2

(Optional) If you are using a woven liner make sure the cut out for the bottom drain is aligned with the port on the Arena 330 Shipper™. Drape the flaps over the side of the container. If necessary, use a stick to square the woven liner on the floor of the container. If you are using the corrugated or plastic sheet liner, install as shown below.

Gate or Ball Valve with a
plunger-cutter attachment

  • Attach the appropriate valve to the bag fitting. Hand tighten, being careful to avoid cross-threading.
  • Attach the plunger-cutter attachment directly to the valve outlet.
  • With the valve open, push the handle of the plunger to extend the cutter through the valve opening and into the liner bag membrane, making an X-cut.
  • After the bag membrane has been pierced, withdraw the plunger and close the valve.
  • Remove the cutting tool. Have a pan ready to catch up to 5 fluid ounces of liquid which may spill from the cutter cap.
  • Make suitable connections and open the valve to begin discharge.

Gate Valve with "T" and
plunger-cutter attachment

  • Attach the male nipple on the "T" to the bag fitting and check to make sure the valve is closed.
  • Push the handle of the plunger to extend the cutter through the "T" and into the liner bag membrane.
  • After the bag has been pierced, the plunger may be left inserted.
  • Make suitable connections and open the valve to begin discharge.
  • The gate valve and "T" assembly will help to eliminate spillage.

Gate or Stop-Cock Valve with cutting-pin attachment

Stop-Cock Valve

90° Stop-Cock Valve

Gate Valve

  • Attach a cutting-pin to the male thread end of either valve type. Thread the valve into fitting, being careful to avoid cross-threading. The pin will pierce the liner bag membrane as the valve seals, making a 270 degree circle cut.

  • Make suitable connections and open the valve to begin discharge.

A. The standard 2" bottom discharge on the Arena 330 Shipper is located slightly above the floor of the container. To achieve thorough discharge, a siphon should be maintained. This can be achieved by using a pump or by plumbing an elbow and/or a trap to the discharge valve. The discharge hose may also be looped to create a trap.

B. The rate of discharge can be increased by elevating the container.

C. Tilting the container toward the outlet will reduce residual.

D. Pulling the corners of the bag up toward the bottom outlet and clamping them over the side of the container can also help reduce residual levels. Tilting and bag handling become more critical in achieving low residual levels as the viscosity of the product increases.

Contact Arena Products for alternative discharge methods if residual is not satisfactory.

After discharging contents of the shipper, remove the valve and replace the bung cap on the port. Unlock the bottom drain by lifting up on the slide clip.

Remove bag and dispose of it properly.

If a corrugated secondary liner is used, it should also be disposed of at this point.

Reusable woven liners or plastic sheet liners should be folded into the container for return shipping.

To break down the Arena 330 Shipper for storage or return shipping, pull out on the latch marked "A" found on the 48 inch sides of the container and then push the 45 inch side wall inward.

Fold the walls down to the floor of the container. After all of the walls have been collapsed, replace the cover on the Arena 330 Shipper and push down on the indentations (as shown in the enlarged illustration). The indentations are located on all four corners of the container. This will attach the cover to the container. The unit can now be stacked for storage or return shipping.
